A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior professional with an extensive background in strategic support, business development and relationship management, together with a detailed understanding of the global business environment (in particular as it relates to Greater China) to join the Victorian Government Trade & Investment (VGTI) network.
Reporting to the Commissioner for Victoria to Greater China, this position will require an understanding of the export promotion process and the ability to enable Victorian businesses to plan and execute their market development activities.

Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will possess:
Demonstrated experience in the provision of strategic advice in the areas of trade and investment within a geographically diverse business environment.
Experience in managing complex and sensitive issues and the provision of high level organisational executive support, often within short timeframes.
Highly developed consultation and negotiation skills, resulting in the establishment and maintenance of cross-sector partnerships.
The successful candidate for this Locally Engaged Position will be responsible for all arrangements in relation to relocation expenses (if applicable), their accommodation and day-to-day living expenses.
The Strategic Advisor will work collaboratively across the China offices to support the Commissioner in achieving the VGTI objectives and key initiatives in-market.

Employment Eligibility
Applicants must be a citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa for China.
The successful applicant will be subject to extensive background checks, including through relevant law enforcement authorities.

Selection Criteria
Demonstrated experience in the provision of strategic advice in the areas of trade and investment within a geographically diverse business environment.
Experience in managing complex and sensitive issues and the provision of considered, strategic advice and solutions, often within short timeframes.
Highly developed consultation and negotiation skills, resulting in the establishment and maintenance of cross-sector partnerships.
Knowledge of contemporary trends and developments, including legislation, economic climate and funding initiatives, in an environment subject to rapid change and development.
Comprehensive understanding of the statutory and regulatory environment in Greater China, as it relates to the operation of a foreign representative office.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills in both English and Mandarin Chinese are essential in the development of effective relationships at senior levels.
Ability to provide effective support to staff in remote locations.
