About the Role

  • Classification: Locally Engaged Staff (LES)

  • Salary Range: Commensurate with experience

  • Work Location: Victorian Government Trade & Investment (VGTI) office, Shanghai

  • Employment Type: Fixed Term (2 years)


A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior  professional with an extensive background in investment promotion and  business development, together with a detailed understanding of the  global business environment (in particular as it relates to China and  Victoria, Australia), to join the Victorian Government Trade &  Investment (VGTI) network.


Reporting to the Commissioner for Victoria to Greater China, this  position is responsible for leading the Investment function in  Shanghai, which promotes economic development for Victoria, Australia,  through the attraction of new investment.



Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Experience in providing strategic direction and establishing  effective targets, and knowledge of the major issues which impact on  the ability to attract international investment to Australia and  Victoria from the region.

  • Proven and extensive knowledge of  Australian and Victorian business environments, including key industry,  economic and socio-political drivers, with extensive background  experience in developing and executing a Foreign Direct Investment  strategy.

  • Demonstrated and up to date understanding of Victorian  industry sectors, particularly food & fibre, international  education, health & med tech, new energy technology, professional  services and retail, transport, and construction.

The successful candidate for this locally engaged position will  be responsible for all arrangements in relation to relocation expenses  (if applicable), their accommodation and day-to-day living expenses.
