Master’s class on the art of translation March 2022

Hello everybody. I am Dr Graeme Ford.

I'm going to do a little series of translating classes in 2022. I hope you'll join me.

• Translating between Chinese and English gives us a good understanding of the grammar of both languages.

• The best type of text to translate is the plain information text. Both the meaning and the discourse can be made very exact.

• The interesting thing about Chinese and English grammar is that they seem to go in opposite directions. What goes first in Chinese goes last in English, and vice versa.
