Mr Tong is a public interest lawyer and the leading advocate in China for the rights of children and migrant workers.

In 1999, he used his personal funds to establish the Beijing Children’s Legal Aid and Research Centre and in 2005 he founded the Beijing Migrant Workers’ Legal Aid and Research Center. They were the first non-governmental organisations dedicated to providing pro bono legal services to children in China and migrant workers in China and is now the largest law NGO in China.

Driven by his passion to help and appreciation of the urgent need for legal assistance for migrant workers in China, he promoted and trained the very first generation of public interest lawyers in China. He also promoted to set up 26 child protection committees at the provincial level and 38 affiliated migrant workers’ offices in 20 provinces, with the help of which, over 500,000 clients directly benefited.

His outstanding achievements are well evidenced by his receipt of over 80 national and international awards since 2000, including China’s Top Ten Legal Practitioners and the International Bar Association Pro Bono Award. Since 2008, he has been invited every year to participate in the annual China-EU Judicial Seminar and has worked closely with the Australia Human Rights Commission.

Mr. Xu Cheng Zhu joined Schlumberger in 1996, and has been working for the company both inside and outside China. His career spans across finance, controllership, manufacturing, and line management.

As President of Schlumberger China, Mr. Xu is responsible for China strategy formulation and implementation for the company, people development, business development, customer and government relations, and key EMS projects. He also supports Chinese global account management which coordinates Schlumberger resources in providing oilfield services to Chinese customers overseas.

From 2005 to 2009, before assuming his current responsibility, Mr. Xu was General Manager for Schlumberger China Manufacturing and Global Sourcing based in Shanghai. He was the team leader for China Manufacturing Perforating Gun Project which won Performed by Schlumberger Gold Award in 2009. Today the Qingpu Product Center is one of the fast growing product centers in Schlumberger.

Mr. Xu studied at Xiamen University in China, The University of Kansas in USA, and Monash University in Australia. He holds a bachelors in Accounting and an Masters in Business Administration (MBA). From 1984 to 1991, before joining Schlumberger, Mr. Xu worked for the Chinese central government in Beijing where he held various technical and managerial positions.

In addition to his role as President of Schlumberger China, Mr. Xu has been appointed by Schlumberger as Ambassador to Beijing University, Qinghua University and China University of Petroleum. Cheng also serves on the boards of directors of the Schlumberger China Petroleum Institute, as well as on the boards of directors of the School of Engineering, Beijing University.

Due to his significant contributions to China's oil and gas industry, China government has recently awarded Mr. Xu the permanent residence status (green card) under the category of "Special Contributions". This is a great honor as it is only granted to very few expatriates each year.

Having completed his MSc (Marketing) at the National University of Ireland in 2003 and his eMBA at Southern Illinois University in 2004, Dr. Ong Kar Ching achieved his Doctor of Business Administration in 2007 at the University of Newcastle. He has worked at a senior management level for the last 20 years and is currently the Senior General Manager of Gold Coin Feedmill (Dongguan & Zhanjiang) and Gold Coin (Zhuhai).

A well-regarded professional manager in the feed industry, Dr. Ong has contributed to the growth and success of Gold Coin since joining it in 1998 through his visionary leadership and business acumen. Dr. Ong led the start-up of Gold Coin (Dongguan) in 2010, which is now the top broiler starter feed supplier in Guangdong.

Dr. Ong is the Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Feed Association and is particularly vocal in the area of feed safety. In January 2015, the Dongguan site was the only complete feed company in Guangdong to be named a “National Model Site” for “Quality and Safety Standard Management and Production” by the China Agriculture Department.

He is also very active within the local community and organizes study tours and learning opportunities for students and fellow feed millers. In cooperation with other companies, he organizes community activities such as the Environment Protection & Safety Education Campaign.

Mr Sai Tan Hui was appointed the Vice-President of the Shimao Group in 2013 and since 2000 he has acted as its Group Sales Controller, where he was responsible for the sales, marketing, management and design of the group’s projects.

He has over 14 years’ experience in the property development industry and under his leadership, Shimao Group’s property development revenue increased by 50% in two consecutive years, and is now ranked as one of the top 10 property companies in China.

Mr Hui has ambitious plans for Shimao’s continued expansion through the innovative development of ‘mini-malls’ in residential developments in response to consumer trends towards online shopping and increased diversity in construction projects.

He is also passionate about supporting philanthropic causes. The Hurun Report philanthropy list estimates the philanthropy of Shimao at close to USD19m for disaster relief in 2009, and a total of USD36.5m to various causes since 2004, including education and the arts. Mr Hui is an alumnus of the prestigious University of Technology Sydney Business School and is an avid supporter of the university community, especially in China, having fully sponsored the 2015 Shanghai UTS alumni reunion.

Mr Dan Sun is currently the Vice President (Government Relation) for Honeywell (Asia Pacific Region) and since joining Honeywell more than 9 years ago, he has been involved across all Honeywell’s business units and has strategically identified new growth sectors and geographic areas by establishing strong relationships with the Chinese government at central and provincial levels.

Prior to this, Mr Sun was selected by the Australian Government to be the Deputy Consul General in Guangzhou between 1999 and 2003 and then took up the same role in Shanghai until 2006. As one of the first generation of immigrants to Australia, this was a considerable achievement. Over the last 20 years, Mr Sun has significantly contributed to the development of Australian-China trade through helping Australian companies enter the China markets.

Mr Sun was awarded a Chinese Government Masters Scholarship to complete his MSc in Plant Ecology at Yunnan University in 1985, after which he worked at the university as a research scientist. Following his PhD in Natural Resource Management at Griffith University in 1987, Mr Sun worked for the Queensland Forest Research Institute and then the DAFF in Brisbane where he specialised in sustainable forestry management.

Ms Yu completed her Bachelor of Business at Victoria University and then a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management at Sydney University.

She has since had significant success in her career, which began with five years of administrative and promotional work at ‘HP Solutions- Electronic Data Systems ’, before a year with Pepsi Cola as Executive Assistant to the General Manager, and then in 2012, taking a position with the Australian Trade Commission as a Business Development Manager in charge of the overall market of Northeast China.

In this role Ms Yu has worked hard to promote Sino-Australian trade opportunities, made arrangements for ministerial visits and trade delegations, set up meetings with Chinese officials and industry associations, and was the Project Manager for the Australian History Week in Shenyang.

Outside work Ms Yu is active in community service, and has been in involved in a range of conservation campaigns including World Wildlife Fund bird conservation campaigns and she was also the Chair of Liaoning University’s Victoria University alumni association.

Mr Issa, at only 29 years of age, is already proving himself as a high-achieving international corporate lawyer based in China. Having graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Law in 2009, he was worked within the Federal Court of Australia in Brisbane, at Anderson Mori and Tomotsune in Tokyo and at King & Wood Mallesons in Hong Kong.

He currently works as Associate at Linklaters LLP in Beijing, where he advises corporates, banks, SOEs and sovereign wealth funds in cross border public and private M&A, as well as issuers and sponsors in equity capital market transactions. As part of Linklaters China team, he offers a compelling combination of technical skills, market expertise, cultural awareness, linguistic capabilities and commercial judgement.

Mr Issa’s working languages include English, Mandarin, Japanese, Cantonese and French and he has won numerous Chinese language competitions, including the Chinese Star Language and the Shanghai Cup Chinese Speech Contest.

Given his successful and busy work agenda, he manages to remain an active member of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Beijing is also Chairman of the Beijing Social Committee at Linklaters as a forum to welcome and mentor new employees.

At just 33 years of age, Richard Mullane is a creative and talented urban designer who has had extensive experience and has made many major contributions in design and development in China and Australia.

Based in China since 2009, Richard is a Principal with HASSELL and is responsible for leadership of its Shanghai Studio as well as Urban Design projects across the Greater China region (including Tianjin Binhai High-Speed Station Interchange, Shenzhen’s Qianhai Special District and Nanjing’s Youth Olympics Axis & Village). Richard is currently the youngest Principal across HASSELL’s global operations. Richard has worked in partnership with global clients entering Shanghai by master planning for significant mixed-use developments in central Shanghai.

In 2002, Richard completed a Bachelor of Design (Architecture) at the University of Newcastle and 4 years later completed his Master of Urban Development and Design at UNSW. Richard has established a wide-ranging and successful architectural career, having working in London for Mountford Piggott LLP and for Suters Architects and Architectus in Sydney.

Between 2011 and 2013, Richard concurrently studied at distance through RMIT for the award of Master of Social Science (International Urban & Environmental Management).

Mr Wang graduated from UNSW with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2004 and then completed a Master of Project Management at the University of Sydney in 2010. Mr Wang started off his career by joining the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) as their first Chinese candidate in the Graduate Program. After 6 years with the RBA in the disciplines of project and risk management, he joined Gallup in 2011, where he was soon transferred to Shanghai office to become the Principal of the Consulting Division in China.

In late 2013, he started his own HR and education consulting firm, Lyncas, and within a year had developed an impressive client list, including the Shanghai Finance Department and Minsheng Bank.

In 2009, he founded the Australia and China Youth Exchange (ACYE) Association, whose aim is to promote education and culture exchange between Australia and China, and in recognition of his achievements with ACYE, he received the Jing An Elite award by the Jing An Government in 2014.

Creating bridges between Australia and China is a passion for Mr Wang, and he has facilitated many international education partnerships, including UNSW, UTS, UESTC and ACPET.

At a young age, Mr Zhang has excelled in his chosen career and is a wonderful young entrepreneur and professional. He graduated from the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) with a Bachelor of Commerce (International Accounting) in 2008 and is currently undertaking a Master of Psychology at Peking University.

Since graduation, he has worked as a Senior Financial Consultant at CWCC Shenzhen, Marketing Manager at Travel Up and General Manager at Key Read Information Consultants. In 2015 he founded the Eagle Molecule Fund, which focuses on providing consulting services and startup investments.

Mr Zhang was heavily involved in the relief operations for the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake through donations, logistics and on-the-ground direct support and recently become a mentor with Qianhai Houde’s Youth Dream Work Project in Shenzhen. Owen is also the current President of USQ’s Southern China Alumni chapter and is actively involved in supporting his fellow alumni.

Dr. Zhu received his Bachelor and Master of IT from Bond University in 2004 and 2006, respectively. In 2012, he received his PhD in Computer Science from UQ and his research interests include data mining, machine learning/AI, and financial modelling.

After completing his PhD, Dr. Zhu was accepted as a postdoctoral fellow in the United Nations University and held the position of principal investigator of their Student Information System. Dr. Zhu also has extensive experience in the industry, specifically million-dollar projects, including more than five years in Suncorp-Metway as a system analyst.

Dr. Jia Zhu is currently an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Big Data Application Research Centre of the School of Computer Science at SCNU in Guangzhou. He is chiefly responsible for numerous industry/government projects, including one of the largest academic social networks in China (scholat.com). He has published more than 20 articles and is the winner of the Youth Teacher Startup Fund of SCNU.

In 2010, he established a publishing company (iConcept Press) in Hong Kong and Brisbane, which helps scholars make their works visible and accessible to diverse new audiences. They have sinces published more than 100 scientific books.

Dr Fitzgerald graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Aerospace Avionics Engineering and completed his PhD in Automated Systems and AI in 2006. He has published over 20 conference papers and journals in the field of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).

On completion of his studies, he worked for 3 years as a research scientist within the CSIRO Autonomous System Laboratory, where he was the youngest research scientist. Other roles have included leading the Avionics R&D department at Cyber Technology in Western Australia and Project Manager with the Australian Research Centre for Aerospace Automation in Brisbane.

Since 2013, Daniel has been focused on growing the PowerVision company, including establishing their UAS department and expanding to over a hundred staff. During this time he has led the team to develop and innovate world-leading UAS solutions that are being sold throughout China.

In November 2013 after being in China for several months, the South Power Grid company invited Daniel as one of only three keynote speakers to talk at their Smart Grid Technology Forum in Guangzhou.

Henry completed his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne in 1990 and then worked in Melbourne until 1993, specializing in tax consultancy. Henry relocated to Beijing in 1993 and is currently a well-respected tax partner with Ernst & Young. In his capacity as a tax and business advisor, he has assisted many multinational companies with their China entry strategies and their subsequent tax compliance and planning needs.

Given Henry’s contribution and influence in the taxation industry, he was named as a Leading Tax Advisor in China by World Tax in 2006 and in 2007 and has been consistently named as a Leading Tax Advisor in China by the Legal Media Group in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014.

Henry is a member of CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) and the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA). In 2002, Henry was appointed as a committee member of CPA Australia’s Beijing Committee (now known as the North China Committee) and served as its President in 2007.

Mr Hu entered Bond University to study a Bachelor of IT degree in 2000, and after a stint as a software engineer, he returned to Bond for a MBA degree. Following this, he secured a job at Goldman Sachs as an Investment Analyst in Melbourne. Two years later, he returned to China and started working in the booming real estate industry, during which period he worked at Tishman Speyer, LaSalle Investment Management and Jones Lang LaSalle specialising in acquisitions and capital investment.

In 2012, Mr Hu founded his first company, Sunny World as an online fashion boutique. This has since grown into a burgeoning firm with 80 staff and a 2014 turnover of more than USD10m.

In early 2015, he established Mitou, an online service provider for middle class investors. With over 300,000 registered users in less than 4 months’, Mitou provides simple solutions to complex investment questions and provides a series of “private banking” Internet-based products. Mr Hu was instrumental in achieving two large investments in Mitou and developing it into a very promising 35-staff-strong company.

Since completing his Master of Commerce in Finance at the University of Melbourne in 2008, Dr Zheng Wang has maintained an impressive upward trajectory in the banking sector. He joined China CITIC as a Relationship Manager in 2009, where he managed credit lines of approximately RMB 9.7 billion.

In 2012, he embarked on his Doctorate in International Politics from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In addition, in 2013, he achieved his qualification as a Certified Practicing Accountant of Australia. He was ranked 6th among 56 corporate banking relationship managers in Beijing for individual economic profit contribution and received CITIC’s Annual Outstanding Employee Award in 2011 and its Annual Outstanding Corporate Banking Relationship Manager Award in 2012.

Today, he holds the position of Corporate Banking Regional Manager at CITIC Bank in Beijing where his responsibilities mainly focus on formulating the bank's strategies and policies relating to corporate customer management and the supervision of 11 provincial branches in South China. In addition, Dr Wang formulated the bank's implementation plan responding to the central government's initiative “One Belt, One Road”.

After graduating from Western Sydney University, until 2010 Mr Kong worked as a project manager at Strategy Investment and Cooperation Office of China Three Gorges Group Company (CTG), a central state-owned enterprise and one of top 500 companies in China. During his time with CTG, he was instrumental in the completion of many major projects, including establishing a Shanghai Exchange listed IPO Company, the acquisition of China Water Investment Group and the first New Energy investment project in Shanxi.

Since 2010, Mr Kong has worked at China Gezhouba Group International Engineering Company (CGGCIE) as Deputy Director. This role involves taking the responsibilities of overseas mining investment, including project information collection, site surveys, investment and operation plans, financial plans and cooperation negotiation.

Wanging Chen was appointed as Deputy Director of the National Office for Cancer Prevention and Control at the National Central Cancer Registry of China in 2005 and has been both involved in and responsible for many vital programs and initiatives. These include the third national death survey, a major cancer-screening program in the Huaihe river region and the cancer registration and follow-up scheme. China’s achievements in the field of cancer epidemiology have become well known across the world, thanks in part to Wanqing Chen and his team’s research, publications and attendance of major international conferences. Mr Chen has published more than 100 scientific articles and 9 monographs.

Mr Chen obtained his Master’s Degree in International Public Health (Honors) in 2004 and his PhD in 2014 from the School of Public Health, at the University of Sydney. Through his studies he gained valuable theoretical and practical experience in cancer epidemiology, which assists with him his current responsibilities.

Today Pengju Kang is a recognized world expert in electrical systems. In 2006 he was singled out by respected weekly magazine ‘Phoenix Life’ as one of the top 50 Chinese people influencing the world’s future. He is often called upon by mainstream media in China for his expert views in the development of the Chinese cultural industry.

On completing his undergraduate studies at the East China Normal University in 1983, he accepted a teaching post at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. In 1994, Zhu relocated to Australia to pursue a PhD at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). During his 8 years in Australia he wrote extensively and published many essays and reviews.

In addition to his contribution to education through writing, Zhu has also worked to educate through other art forms, including music and the visual arts. Zhu currently holds a professorial appointment at Tongji University in Shanghai, where he is co-director of the Research Centre for Cultural Criticism.

Priscilla’s passion and drive for marketing emerged at a young age, and her strategic and methodical approach to career planning have shaped her path to becoming a leading sports marketing professional in China.

With assistance from a Hu Xin Foundation scholarship, Priscilla graduated in 1994. She then worked to build a strong foundation in advertising and marketing at Leo Burnett China, and International Sports and Leisure Ltd (ISL). Following ISL’s closure, Priscilla used her knowledge and skills to open her own sports and entertainment marketing agency, Prescient Sports and Entertainment Pty Ltd.

Prescient played a crucial role in the Beijing Olympics, becoming the first agency for stadium sponsorship and branding solutions in China. Prescient pioneered and introduced sports sponsorships in China and has since taken Chinese corporations to many world games, including the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, and the FIFA World Cup. With Priscilla at the helm, Prescient has gone on to manage over RMB2billion in sponsorship over the last ten years alone.

In her spare time, Priscilla is a patron of and donor to the Red Cross Society of China, sourcing donations and support for the charity. She is passionate about raising funds, awareness, and support for disabled and retired athletes, and works to incorporate corporate social responsibility into her marketing programs. She also works extensively to introduce sports to school children and the general public.

As mentioned, a scholarship from the Hu Xin Foundation was crucial to enabling Priscilla to pursue her passion for marketing. Priscilla now gives back by offering internships at Prescient to students and young graduates, providing guidance and enabling them to gain valuable skills. In doing so, Priscilla draws on the Chinese saying “giving out before taking in”.

She has lead the team delivering profitable integrated supply chain management solutions to bridge overseas clients’ penetration into China and implement strategy for growth, service and operational optimization, assisting to build solid company reputation across diverse industries in Middle East, Australia, Europe, Asia and North America, ranging from medical equipment, electronics, security, chemical to agriculture machinery, water treatment industries.

In this role, as a board member of China Business Club, Chris has hosted Logistics workshop in Israel. Her team worked with operational auditing teams for business management & recovery projects and ultimately won the ATTA Turnaround & Transformation Award in 2011 & 2012.

Chris is keen on developing collaborative partnerships between China-Australia-Israel, especially within the fields of education, SME incubator and investment on technology innovation, etc.

During her time in SUIBE-RMIT, she was awarded the ‘2005 Rotary Club----Percy Chu Scholarship’, by AustCham Shanghai. Encouraged by the spirit of the scholarship, Chris has continued to strive and achieve her life and career goals.

At the beginning of 2000, John joined Siemens Communication Group, and was given the responsibilities shifting from business development, business strategy to business consultancy. John decided to gain further professional growth and joined Siemens Learning Campus in 2007. He is assigned to design and deliver training topics in the fields of marketing related and finance for non-financial background professionals in Asia Pacific region.

An emerging concept in the area of careers and employability is the concept that people no longer have one career – instead, they have multiple jobs or careers that are often linked by a central or key theme. Summer is a prime example of this.

While she has held various high level roles across several organisations, one key theme is clear: she is passionate about development of the China market.

In recent years, Summer has turned her attention to becoming a leader in the security profession (a typically male dominated industry) as seen in her roles with G4S and Prosegur. In her role at G4S, the largest security company in the world, she was responsible for leading the smooth transition of China’s largest global account, as well as working across accounts in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. In her current role as China Commercial Director for Prosegur, a multinational security firm, she is responsible for leading a team to implement commercial strategies across all of the China business units.

Summer’s passion and desire to be a leader in the security profession is self-evident in her extracurricular activities. In addition to her high-level role at Prosegur, Summer is active in the ASIS Shanghai chapter: the peak body for security professionals worldwide. Summer is also working toward gaining her Certified Protection Professional accreditation.

Minghui Li set up her own career upon her return to China. So far, her school has been developed into the largest language school in our city which provides courses for students ranging from 3 years old to adult covering English for kids, English for young learners and IETLS, TOEFL and BEC. During these years as the principal she has accumulated rich administrative experience in handling a school.

In addition, I was employed as the business mentor for students at the School of Foreign Language School of Shandong University of Technology. Minghui provided the students apprenticeships in her school, and guided them in ways to establish their own career.

She has also contributed a lot to charity throughout her career and has set up an organization which helps abandoned children, not only financially but also spiritually. Currently, we have more than 200 volunteers including college students, businessman, civil servants, etc.

Dr Po Li Tan is a recognised consultant, facilitator and coach specialising in Intercultural Development, Adult Learning, and Leadership/Talent Development. Originally from Malaysia, Dr Tan has more than 20 years experience providing professional development, training, coaching and teaching to groups and individual adult learners from diverse backgrounds.

Her training philosophy has been shaped by the Chinese Middle Way philosophy as well as her diverse experience of working abroad in Australia, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Singapore and China.

Since moving to Beijing in 2012, Dr Tan has worked as a freelance consultant for Mindset Matters Group and Talent Q China. In this capacity she has designed and facilitated leadership workshops for companies such as BMW, Daimler Mercedes and Millward Brown etc. Importantly, she has delivered intercultural sensitivity workshops for key Chinese and international leaders at leading multinational companies and coached high-level leaders on conscious leadership transformation and development, including leaders at embassies working on policy making.

Dr Tan’s work has been published in a variety of international journals including the Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources and the Journal of Studies in International Education. She has been invited as a keynote speaker to present workshops to senior academic staff at two Beijing Universities.

Dr Tan earlier this year established the Inspiring Dance Project in Beijing which aims to ‘empower youth in China with the
positive energy of dance to inspire self-confidence and self-esteem in their daily lives, with a bigger aim for better employment possibilities, and feeling supported to pursue their dreams’.

There are 10,000 original videos that cover subjects such as maths, science, English, history, as well as other subjects from primary school through to a high school level and extending to the university curriculum - based on the Chinese system.

Since the launch in May 2014, the Kuxuexi App was recommended by Apple store as a future app. Currently, they have 4 million users across China with 90% being students and 10% teachers. Our service is contributing to the reformation of Chinese education. They are considering to globalize this project.

Free seminars were organised in conjunction for this project, specifically for Chinese overseas students of various Australian Universities. These seminars attracted many students across varying faculties including Accounting, Business, Management etc.

To encourage further employment opportunities, Liu established a career centre especially for Chinese overseas returnees from Australia. Liu has more than 10 years HR outsourcing service experience and is continuously engaging and connecting with large enterprises in Beijing and Shanghai who are keen to attract and retain overseas returnees from Australia. Dr Xiaoyue Wang has an excellent understanding of the opportunities for collaboration between Australian and Chinese Universities, and the value of these partnerships for education globally.

Dr Wang is currently the Academic Board Chairperson of the NAE International Programs Centre (in collaboration with Shanghai Normal University). Prior to this, he has held other senior positions such as Deputy Director for the Shanghai Talent Training & Development Center; Director & Senior Vice President for the Asia International Education Networks Co.; Associate Professor (I) & China Programs Director at SPACE of University of Hong Kong; as well as being a lecturer and professor at several Australian and Chinese Universities.

Dr Wang is also currently on the Academic Committee for the China Management Science Research Institute; the Chairperson for the English Academic Committee of AIEN College, Shanghai Ocean University; Member of Council of the Shanghai Family Education Commission; and Principal Consultant (International Education) for the Shanghai Huiming International College.

Dr Wang has been an excellent university ambassador, as well as an advocate for many Australian organisations, including the Victorian Trade mission.

Karen’s pharmacist career was put on hold when she moved to China in 2006. Undeterred, Karen quickly assessed the opportunities available and, applying the journalism skills she had honed writing regular pieces for the Sunday Herald Sun and Australian Pharmacist, she became the Pharmaceuticals Editor at Interfax News Agency in Shanghai. Within 18 months Karen had, at the age of 27, risen to be Shanghai Bureau Chief, the youngest and first female Bureau Chief in Interfax’s extensive global network.

Following 18 months at Jiaotong University improving her Chinese language skills, Karen returned to science in 2011 when she joined the Pfizer China Research and Development Center in Shanghai, initially as a medical writer but within three years rising to the position of Head of Medical Writing. The medical writing team plays a pivotal role as Pfizer looks to develop the next product in its core strengths of oncology drugs, biological therapeutics and cardiovascular medicines.

In every position she has held, whether as a pharmacist, journalist or medical writer, Karen has rapidly assumed a leadership role. Karen is a strong but empathetic leader, is tireless in establishing better systems and processes, and as the mother of a young daughter, Karen knows the importance of good time management. Karen also effortlessly bridges cultural divides, working seamlessly with Chinese colleagues as well as head office whether in Melbourne, Moscow or New York.

Karen is also a core committee member of the China Medical Writers Community, which was established in 2013 to foster the growth of the profession and promote continuous professional development of medical writers in China.
