It was the biggest night of the year for China-based alumni of Australian universities on Saturday 10 July , as 280 alumni and friends gathered to celebrate the Australia China Alumni Association and CPA Australia - Australia China Alumni Awards in Shanghai.
Nine awards were presented to high achieving Australian-educated alumni in China with Mr. Peter Pang, President of Bosch China and alumnus of the University of Western Australia, taking top honours as the 2010 Australia China Alumni of the Year. Martyn Huckerby, one of this year’s judges, a Partner and Chief Representative of the Shanghai office of Mallesons Stephen Jaques, commented on Peter Pang’s award win: “Peter has achieved great things since graduating from the University of Western Australia with a degree in electronics engineering. The recognition of Peter's achievements should provide further encouragement for Chinese students to advance their careers and life experience by studying in Australia."
The Australia China Alumni Awards are an initiative of the Australia China Alumni Association. The awards were established to acknowledge and appreciate the successes of Australian university alumni based in China. Since the 1970s, more than 200,000 Chinese students have made Australia their preferred tertiary study destination and each year many more tens of thousands of Chinese students follow in their footsteps. An increasing number of Australian-born alumni are also now choosing to call China home.
