ACAA attends historic Sino-Australian water-conservation conference in Henan Province

As part of the ACAA's  new partnership with the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), ACAA staffer Amanda Barry attended an historical conference in Henan in October, hosted by the Yellow River Conservancy Commission (YRCC) and with visiting speakers from the Murray Darling basin.

The two water catchments share similar challenges in the face of diminishing water resources and the conference provided a unique opportunity for experts to share their views.

After the formalities, Amanda spoke at an alumni reception for YRCC staff who have studied in Australia on AusAID fellowships, many of them at ACAA partner universities the University of South Australia and the University of Queensland.

The conference was a great opportunity for ACAA to meet with this group of alumni and also further our engagement with provincial cities across China.

Hello from ACAA!

September and October have been two more busy months for ACAA as we sifted through over 150 fantastic nomination submissions for our inaugural alumni awards.

In addition to all our regular events and activities, ACAA also helped to organise, and attended, several partner university functions held across China, including those for University of Queensland, Griffith University,University of Southern Queensland, and Queensland University of Technology. La Trobe will host alumni functions in Beijing and Shanghai in early November.

We're also delighted to welcome The University of Sydney as the ACAA's latest university partner. The University of Sydney joins ACAA as a silver partner, bringing our total number of partners to 20, including three Group of Eight universities.

Over the last two months ACAA has also started to step up its regional engagement, holding successful alumni events in regional cities including Kunming and Changsha. Alumni in regional cities who would like to organise their own local events should contact us - assistance and support are available.

September and October also saw a marked rise in the use of our jobs board, which is becoming a great place for our alumni employers and job seekers to find each other.

Also, see the ad at the end of this newsletter for a great offer from our Alumni Awards media partner, China International Business, for a free subscription to their magazine.

We hope to see some of you at an event soon!

Kind regards,

The ACAA team,
Edward, Amanda, Sarah, Jason, Jessica and Rona.
